Attorney: Peter Jay Peter Jay

Education:

Peter Jay graduated from Springville High School in 1997.  He completed his Bachelors degree at Brigham Young University in Political Science with minors in both Russian and Business.  He then received scholarships to the University of Alabama School of Law and the University of Alabama Manderson Graduate School of Business in Tuscaloosa, AL, where he received a Juris Doctor and a Masters of Business Administration.

Professional Experience:
Following graduate school, Peter worked as General Counsel in an international business in the in flight entertainment industry.  As General Counsel, Peter oversaw the company’s litigation, including partnership disputes, domestic and foreign collections, and patent infringement defense.  He negotiated, drafted, reviewed, and organized the company’s commercial contracts with domestic and foreign airlines.  He managed intellectual property development, including trademark registrations and working with outside counsel to file patents.  He filed UCC1 statements to perfect security interests.  He was responsible for business formations and government filings.  He also advised all company departments regarding any legal issues, including regulatory compliance, labor and employment law, international laws, tax laws, and any other legal questions that arose.

As a law student, Peter completed an externship with the Alabama State Circuit Court, where he attended a number of trials and drafted memoranda on legal issues, as requested by the judge.  He also worked for a year as a research assistant with the Alabama Law Institute where he reviewed legislative trends from other states and organizations to make legislative recommendations to the state legislature.

Prior to law school, Peter worked as a Regulatory Affairs Coordinator in the nutrition and cosmetics industry.  He was responsible for regulatory compliance with FDA regulations and with dietary supplement and cosmetics laws in Russia and Eastern Europe.

As a Political Science student at BYU, Peter completed an internship with the BYU Washington Seminar in Washington, DC, where he worked at an international trade consulting firm.  He also volunteered with Utah Legal Services, which provided legal help to low income families and individuals regarding landlord tenant issues, domestic violence, and social security disability benefits.

Peter was also a Russian teacher at the missionary training center, following his mission in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
